Yukine Yanagi (b.1998) is a Chinese-Japanese artist currently living and working in Rhode Island. Yukine’s mysterious and meditative paintings depict an inner world confronted by, and projected onto, the natural world to capture the profound personal and existential meanings observed in nature. In her paintings, elemental forms and gestural marks reveal otherworldly spaces that reflect themes of hope within the coexisting framework of absence and presence, wonder and terror, and yearning and detachment. Working within the conceptual lineage of the German Romantic movement and influenced by Eastern philosophy and spirituality, Yukine developed an abstract language containing marks that become symbolic representations of specific feelings suspended in time, elemental forms that capture the phenomenology of patterns and systems found in nature, and figurative allusions to the self as both witness and participant.

She holds a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI). Recently, she has presented a solo exhibition at G/ART/EN Gallery (Como, Italy), and group exhibitions at Analog Diary (Beacon, NY), Latitude Gallery New York (NYC, NY), and SPY Projects (Los Angeles, CA).
